Telemedicine Visits
Some visits do not require a waiting room. Meet your own clinician by video, not a stranger on a national telehealth app.
Telemedicine at IM Clinic is a secure video visit with your own clinician, the same people who see you in the office and who have your full chart in front of them. Visits are available to patients physically located in Alabama.
What works well by video
Follow-up on a condition we are already managing, medication checks and adjustments, reviewing lab or imaging results, rashes and other visible concerns, mental health check-ins, and many routine questions that do not need an exam.
What still needs an office visit
Anything requiring a physical exam, vitals, labs drawn, an in-office procedure, or a same-day evaluation of a serious symptom. We will tell you plainly if a video visit is not the right setting, and we will get you in.
How to schedule one
Call the office at (256) 715-9598 or send a message through the patient portal and ask for a telemedicine visit. You will receive a secure link; join from a phone, tablet, or computer. Have your medication list handy and find a private, well-lit spot with a stable connection.
A note on how telehealth works in Alabama
Alabama law requires that you be physically located in Alabama at the time of a telehealth visit, and we confirm your identity and location at the start of each one. Some medications also require an in-person visit before they can be prescribed. These rules exist to keep virtual care safe, and we follow them.
Common questions
Can I have a video visit if I am traveling out of state?
No. Alabama law requires you to be physically located in Alabama at the time of the visit. If you are traveling, call us and we will help you find appropriate care.
Does insurance cover telemedicine?
Most plans, including Medicare, cover telehealth visits, though coverage varies by plan and visit type. Call us at (256) 715-9598 and we will verify your specific coverage before you schedule.
Can you prescribe medication during a video visit?
Yes for most routine medications. Some prescriptions require an in-person visit first, and we will tell you if yours does.
Do I need to be an established patient?
Telemedicine works best when we already know your history. Call the office and we will tell you whether a video visit or an in-person visit is the right first step.
